Self-assessment
As a literature major graduate, I faced business tasks with a clean slate and acted as a new born when I first join Stage in June. My classmates, who are pursuing their master’s degree or going to be teachers, dismiss me as a joke when I told them my decision. To them, a job, far away from home with long working hours, is unfashionable to girls. However, after months of fitting in, I did a self-assessment where I estimated my own present situation, personal preference and future planning to work. It is appropriate for me to start my career as a business clerk.
First of all, I have to rise to the challenge actively since international trade is something brand new to me. It is depressed when I found sweep means hem-line rather than push dirt off; plant means factory rather than a living thing with leaves and roots. Zinfandel, burgundy and fuschia even go much further. They almost laugh at me on the cartons after my four-year English learning life. Memorizing words is easy, however, compare with quality control and customer communication.
For some, troubles like living alone or travel for business are rocks on the road. For me, however, it is new experience and I enjoy it. Youths in early 20s, waving to their student days, should become their own shareholders. “Young, single and what about it?”[1] These advantages are the sources of our courage. We can work with one heart and one mind without worries behind. Our generation is born without fear and could tackle changes effectively. I used to be an indoorsy, for example, but I spent half a month on the road in August. “Road is fast”, Jack Kerouac addicted to jazz, alcohol and drugs while I devoted myself to sheets, fabrics and views outside the train.
It is the best times and the worst times, no matter to the specific industry or me. Both the opportunities and challenges that I face are unprecedented. I make full use of the opportunities to better bringing in and serve the company as well as myself. I want to express my gratitude to my manager Jane Ni, for her instructive suggestions and valuable comments on my daily work. And I also appreciate the help of my colleges for providing me with valuable advice and access to the online resources. All in all, a respect for work, a firm faith in solving problems correctly are the keys to the combative soul beating at the heart of me, to a belief that never ceases to fascinate.
